The Need
There are currently 1.6 billion people who live off the electrical grid. There is a growing need for clean light, renewable energy and the ability to recharge electronics in these remote locations. According to Lighting Africa, a joint International Finance Corporation and World Bank program, the solar lighting market is currently growing by 100% per year.
The Product
The LunaLight is a rechargeable solar-powered LED light and cell phone charger which aims to solve both of these needs. Our simple design is portable, bright, hands-free, and has a long battery life. Our goal is to have 50 LunaLights produced and distributed by June 2013 in preparation for mass production.
The Team
The LunaTech team is a diverse group of engineering and business students developing the LunaLight as an interdisciplinary senior project at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
